eye primer plays a pivotal role in the longevity of our eyeshadow. try going without it and you risk crumbles and creases on your eyelids by the end of the work day. there are some products worth splurging on so the question becomes: should i splurge for the more expensive primer?
i'm very picky when it comes to face products. i don't really care whether i buy windex or generic blue glass cleaner. it's a different story when it comes to something that i wear all day on my face.
splurge: urban decay eyeshadow primer potion [$21 retail]
this primer comes in a cute metallic purple tube. the texture and thickness is perfect and doesn't feel heavy on the lid. there is also a hue that makes your eyelid look vibrant and glow. i put it on in the morning and it is still working (or appears to still be working) long into the night.
save: elf mineral eyeshadow primer [$3 retail]
every time i hear "minerals" i assume the product is good for my skin. this primer blends into my eyelid just fine, without leaving awkward unsightly patches or marks. it also helps keep my eyeshadow in place throughout the day and i haven't yet experienced bad creasing. it is thinner than urban decay and there is a lack of vibrant hue that i discussed earlier. however, at $3, this is a STEAL.
verdict:
you can never go wrong with urban decay; it is a staple in every makeup artist's collection. however, if you are a student and broke as hell like me, you don't always have the luxury of spending money on beauty products. for those looking to save big, go with elf. you can upgrade to urban decay once you have spending power.
